Miri Arie, Ph.D

Dr. Miri Arie has been helping children to improve social skills since 1999, when she worked as an ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) therapist for home based interventions for children with Autism Spectrum disorder. Since then, she practiced as a clinical psychology intern at Schneider Children's Medical Center, where she acquired a broad range of experience with different intervention methods such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Parent Management training, Play-Therapy, and specific experience with wide range of curriculums teaching social skills to children. 

Dr. Arie completed a PhD program in clinical child psychology from Tel-Aviv University, Israel. In her research dissertation she studied the physiological as well as the behavioral characteristics of children with Selective-Mutism. As part of her research she developed a Cognitive-Behavioral intervention tailored for the needs of elementary school age children with Selective Mutism.

In 2006, Dr. Arie moved to the US, where she completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Articulab, Center for Technology and Social Behavior, at Northwestern University. Her research focused on developing a social skills assessment for children with Autism Spectrum disorders using technologically mediated devices.

In 2008, Dr. Arie joined  the Pediatric Consultation Center as a post-doc clinical fellow.

Dr. Arie’s interests are understanding the development of social skills in children and the psychopathologies related to social skill deficits. Her previous research and clinical experience includes: Autism Spectrum Disorder (with special expertise with high-functioning autism, Asperger's disorder), Selective-Mutism, Nonverbal learning Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety disorders, and defiant behaviors.  

Currently Dr. Arie is a co-director of “One In A Hundred Camp” which focuses on developing socialemotional competence and confidence in children with social skills challenges.

Chava Alpert, MSW, LCSW

Ms. Alpert has been providing clinical services to children and their families for over 15 years in the greater Chicago area. Her early clinical experiences include employment at Kaleidoscope and the Virginia Frank Child Development Center providing individual, child, family and group therapy. Her current work focuses on reflective social emotional consultation to teachers and administrators and direct service with children and their parents in full day child care facilities. Throughout her career, Ms. Alpert has helped hundreds of families and early childhood educators delivering mental health, advocacy and consultation services.

Genevieve Thornton, Psy.D.

 Dr. Eve  Thornton is a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with children and adults with social cognitive deficits. Many of her clients have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, NVLD, and ADHD.

Dr. Thornton began facilitating social thinking groups for children and young adults in 1997 while training under Dr. Catherine Lord. In 2007, Dr. Thornton was trained in Michelle Winner's social thinking curriculum. She currently facilitates 6 social thinking groups per week.

Dr. Thornton also works with clients, using video modeling to help them learn how to have a back and forth conversation and become more aware of how they are perceived by others. In addition, Dr. Thornton enjoys working with young adults with social thinking deficits who struggle with life transitions.

Dr. Thornton received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2004. She lives in Glencoe, Illinois with her family and has a private practice in Northbrook, Illinois.

Mara H. Lane, M.S., CCC/SLP

Ms. Lane is a Speech and Language Pathologist with extensive experience providing individualized, intensive treatment to children that have been diagnosed with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Non-Verbal Language Disorders, Delayed Language, Auditory Processing Disability and Hearing Impairment/Deafness.

Ms. Lane's private practice provides comprehensive Speech and Language Diagnostic Evaluations, individualized Speech and Language Therapy, Social Pragmatic Language groups, and consultations to school districts.

In addition to her private practice, Ms. Lane has worked as a school Speech and Language Pathologist in the Chicagoland and New York area. Ms. Lane received her graduate and undergraduate degrees from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. She has a private practice in Deerfield, Illinois.
