Working with children
The first step in working with children is to establish trust and a comfort zone.
As in any other relationship, partners need to learn about each other's interests, find common ground, and enjoy each-other's company.
We realize that children learn best in a fun and engaging environment.
Therefore, meetings consist of short activities, incorporating games, role play, video modeling, drawing, and any other special interests of the child.
In each meeting we will focus on themes such as:
- Body language: reading other's intentions & using our body to communicate.
- Thinking of others: exploring motivation for cooperation and negotiation.
- Thinking of me: exploring how one's behavior affects other's responses.
- Conversations: a give and take between two partners.
- Emotions & thoughts: exploring the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
- Perspective taking: learning to understand a social situation from multiple points of view.
- Problem solving: learning to identify a social problem, generate multiple solutions, implementing, and evaluating effectiveness of solutions.
